Day 4: San Francisco

“Being negative only makes a difficult journey more difficult. You may be given a cactus, but you don't have to sit on it.”

I've been kind of a negative Nancy the last few days. I didn't realize it until one of my best friends, Rene, pointed it out to me today. We had been texting off and on throughout the day and all of a sudden she said “Why don't you tell me something good about your trip?” and I realized that up to that point all I had been doing is complaining. About everything. I had to ask myself why I was doing it. Honestly, I'm not sure, I know I miss my cat, I know I miss my friends, I know I miss my bed, but this is an exciting opportunity for me and all I'm doing is looking at the negative aspects.

This morning the first thing I went to do is visit golden gate park, it was gorgeous. A little helpful hint though, don't just say you want to go to golden gate park on uber because they will literally drop you off right in the middle of the park, in the middle of nowhere. Good to know. So I walked for awhile, which wasn't that bad, but it was misting the whole time, that annoying not quite rain feeling where you're getting wet, but it's slowly and it's covering every inch of your body. This put me in a bad mood, I wasn't really prepared for it and felt gross. After my walk in the park I visited the “Full House” house and decided to just walk around the city. Made a stop at the streetcar museum (it was free) and then went back to my hostel.

A few things I noticed while walking around 1) San Francisco has A LOT of laundromats and laundry services, I never realized that people couldn't wash and fold their own laundry.  2) The architecture here is really interesting but it seriously feels like they're stuck in the 1960s. I love the townhouses, but nothing has been updated. 3) If I lived here I feel like I would have a really nice butt, the hills are out of control, some are so steep that they had to embed stairs into the sidewalk.

I had a nice nap and decided I wanted Italian food, after some assistance from yelp I found a place I wanted to go to within walking distance. The only problem is I walked down the hill it was up earlier and really didn't want to walk up it, but I did it anyway and the meal was definitely worth it. Side note, always make sure to lock the bathroom door, unless you want someone walking in on you pulling up your pants...

I honestly feel like today turned out better than I expected. Did everything go a planned? No, but after I got my attitude checked I was able to look at things differently and enjoy myself. I know I'll have more negative days, but it's up to me to make the most of it and not let it ruin my trip.
